Back when I was a kid, we didn't even have a clue about how to entertain ourselves in the car. The only movies that were available were the ones we went to the theater to see. If we'd had portable DVD players to watch, the sibling fights in the backseat would have been nonexistent. Today's kids are so lucky that they have so much media at their disposal. Staying entertained with music and movies or even hand-held games makes a big difference when going on long road trips. We used to have to count cars or identify license plates from other states to be entertained. Now kids can watch the latest movies, play fun games, and listen to their favorite music. I wonder if, down the road, these kids will be able to entertain themselves without the portable DVD players, MP3 players, or digital games. Heck, I wonder what I myself would do if I didn't have the Internet. As an experiment one night last week, I pulled the plug on my Internet and made myself do other things besides sit online and instant message my friends. It was OK!
