Portable DVD Player
There are some things that are essential when taking a road trip for vacation. You need to have some basic tools, spare tire, booster cables, tie downs, GPS, some travel food and a portable DVD player. In fact, I would even take my trip without most of that stuff, but never without a portable DVD player.
It use to be when my family and I took a trip it was alright for the first 100 miles, but then the ruckus from the backseat would begin. We tried coloring books, and little handheld games, but they got old after awhile. Then we purchased our first portable DVD player. Since then, traveling has been sweet bliss. In fact, we even went a little further and purchased new car speakers with a subwoofer.
We actually time our trips now according to movie length. If one of the kids ask how much longer until we get there, our answer is usually, "One more movie!" A portable DVD player isn't just for DVD's. We have found one at an online store that we can plug a Playstation 2 into for when the movies begin to get a little old. That will buy us a few more hours of travel time without bickering and arguing.
